Cleaning Products and Tools to Avoid on Faucets and Shower Finishes
Cleaning your bathroom or kitchen should leave your fixtures looking fresh. But a product designed for tiles, toilets, or glass may not be suitable for a decorative faucet finish.
Whether you have matte black, brushed gold, brushed nickel, or chrome fixtures, start with gentle care. For MAX Faucets finishes, use a soft cloth, warm water, and mild, non-abrasive soap when needed.
1. Cleaning Products to Avoid
Keep the following away from the finished surface of your MAX Faucets fixtures:
- Abrasive powders and creams: Avoid products that clean by scouring.
- Bleach, ammonia, and alcohol-based cleaners: These are outside MAX Faucets’ recommended finish-care routine.
- Acidic cleaners: Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, or acid-based cleaning mixtures on the finish.
- Harsh descaling products: Do not treat a faucet coating like tile when removing mineral deposits.
- Bathroom sprays, glass cleaners, and disinfectants: Avoid applying these to the finished surface.
A “natural” label does not establish compatibility with a faucet finish. Likewise, a cleaner recommended for another brand should not automatically be used on a MAX Faucets product.
2. Cleaning Tools to Avoid
Avoid steel wool, abrasive scouring pads, scrub brushes, and abrasive cleaning tools. Do not scrape stubborn marks with blades or metal tools.
Choose a clean, soft cloth instead. Check it for trapped grit before wiping, and replace it if it feels rough.
3. Care for Matte Black and Other Finishes
Matte black: Keep the matte appearance rather than trying to polish it to a shine. Use gentle wiping instead of repeated hard scrubbing.
Brushed gold and brushed nickel: Treat the brushed texture as part of the finish. Do not try to smooth it with polishing compounds or abrasive pads.
Chrome: A reflective surface still needs gentle cleaning. Remove residue with a soft cloth rather than reaching for a glass cleaner.
The recommended basic cleaning routine is the same for these MAX Faucets finishes.
4. A Simple Cleaning Routine
- Dampen a soft cloth with warm water.
- Add a little mild, non-abrasive soap if needed.
- Wipe the exterior gently.
- Remove soap residue with clean water.
- Dry with a clean, soft cloth.
Clean carefully around the handle and base. When cleaning nearby tiles, mirrors, or countertops, keep their cleaning products off the fixture.
5. What If Mineral Deposits Remain?
Do not increase the scrubbing pressure or switch to a strong cleaner. Contact MAX Faucets with your model number and clear photos for guidance.
Cleaning a removable aerator or an internal component is a separate task. Follow model-specific instructions rather than soaking the entire faucet or showerhead.
